David Steers was minister of All Souls' Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Church, Belfast from 1989 to 2000. Since 1990 he has been Non-Subscribing Presbyterian chaplain at Queen's University, Belfast. He read modern history at the University of Oxford (Christ Church, BA 1984, MA 1988) before reading theology at the University of Manchester while training for the ministry at the Unitarian College, Manchester. From Manchester he holds the degrees of BD and MPhil. A member of the council of both the Unitarian Historical Society and the Presbyterian Historical Society of Ireland he is currently Dr Williams's Research Scholar at the University of Glasgow and editor of The Non-Subscribing Presbyterian magazine. He is a member of the Council of the International Association for Religious Freedom. He has contributed articles to a number of different journals as well as to the forthcoming New Dictionary of National Biography and the Thoemmes Dictionary of Nineteenth Century British Philosophers. He is the editor of A Free Faith (1995) and European Perspectives on Communion (2001). He is married to Sue and they have four children.
