Wayne Facer

Wayne Facer worked in university administration for 12 years. After leaving the university he continued to teach part-time for a number of years in a community health course in the Department of Optometry at the University of Auckland. He established Health Management Services, a consulting firm to the private healthcare sector. His firm has worked throughout the South Pacific establishing access to New Zealand private
hospitals, managed medical centers, and consulted for private and public health insurers.
During his student days, when Facer studied economics and economic history, he was a co-founder of the University of Auckland Humanist Society, and its chairman 1965-70. At this time he became involved with the Auckland Unitarian Church which was going through a period of lay leadership. In 1967 he became a member. He has taken part in radio and television programmes concerning religion and participated in social reforms concerning family planning and abortion. He has written many articles on these subjects, including Birth Control and Family Planning in New Zealand: An Annotated Bibliography (1984). Wayne's current interests are researching New Zealand Unitarian history and aspects of freethought history. He is also a member of the New Zealand Rationalists and Humanists.
